Bill Harper has been making pottery for over 35 years. He started out making functional stoneware using gas-fired reduction, creating mugs, plates, cookie jars, bowls.....and got bored. He is now focused on making large porcelain and stoneware vases with crystal glazes, in his New Jersey studio. He has developed his own glaze formulas, which produce the gorgeous irridescent crystals that are the trademark of Harper Pottery. "Earth tones were nice," he says, "but I was looking for something more exciting and challenging." Using electric firing and a computerized firing schedule, he is able to manipulate the minerals in his glazes to produce these stunning effects.
